Title: Nutrients
Post by: djbrenton on March 21, 2008, 14:44:32
I just thought it worth mentioning, particularly for those in their first year, that you might want to feed your soil more than you would normally. The amount of rain we had last year has probably leeched a lot of nutrients out of the top soil and your veg will suffer if you don't make up for it. Not only am I scattering seaweed meal over all my beds, I'm also using spent hops as a mulch. Hopefully the soil will be back to normal then.

I thought the same when I saw the colour of the water coming out of the beds on to the path after heavy rain  :)

I never feed my ground until planting out time I see no point in feeding earlier if it all going to leech out before it is needed.
