The film that touched me most is Silent Running. It's a very thought-provoking film, with Joan Baez warbling at various times throughout. Not very well known these days.
I do love old-fashioned Hollywood musicals:
West Side Story
Singin' in the Rain
My Fair Lady
Fiddler on the Roof
that kind of thing.
There are three that I think are wonderful films but I find difficult to watch very often.
Holocaust

There are also two French films that I love and can watch again and again: Le Diner de Cons which I think was remade (probably badly) with Robin Williams and I think called The Dinner Party? The original version is much better :) And also another called Le Bonheur est dans le Pré (Happiness is on the Farm??) about a guy who sees himself on a "Long lost family" program and who leaves his unsatisfying life and assumes another identity of a duck farmer in S W France where he finds life is much happier in the countryside. It's a terrific, funny story and some great actors and gorgeous rural France. Thoroughly recommend it.

I love to watch..Point Last Seen, and of course Joanne Woodward in See How she Runs..oh do I ever like that one.
I love the ones with the Oklahoma running for land in, like Cimmaron and Far and Away.. I can close my eyes and feel I was there.
Actually I am a sucker for good endings like Champions, with Aldernete running after pulling a hock muscle and jockeyed by Champion who had recovered from cancer, then winning the Grand National, true story..
Witness ,watching the barn raising
National Velvet same reason
Victory(has a slightly different name in the UK).. POW story about football, Germany v Everybody else with Pele, oh that ending when they escape is fab.
Without a Trace when the little boy turns up and runs to his stunned Mum in the street.
Babe..When the gate closes and the crowd explodes
The one with the two dogs and cat that get lost..that last moment when two are home and then the old one slowly comes into view over the hill.

Bill followed by Bill On His Own.
The old Bette Davis , Jezebel, at the end when the cart is taking them to the leper island.
Shoes of the Fisherman when the new Pope starts to say a prayer for the dying in Yiddish
Sometimes we all need a good cry.
Oh I feel movie night coming on.
XX Jeannine
the film Victory was based on true events - between Dynamo Kiev players and SS Nastys. I thought they won the match and then they were all shot (which probably wasn't the end of your film), but wiki says the won the match, then won a re-match, and then Most of Them were shot
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_Match (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_Match)
Just remembered it was called Escape to Victory here..Victory in the US.
.
The 39 Steps. the original one, one of the sexiest moments in film (and nothing really happens) It's when she's taking off her stockings, they are cufflinked together and the back of his hand runs down her thigh as she takes them off ;) (I'm easily pleased)
It must be one of the first films to use a helicopter?
Another film I could watch again. On Golden Pond, what a fantastic actress Katherine Hepburn was. She carried on acting even when suffering from Parkinson's Disease and made it part of the character.
Henry Fonda's last film if I remember correctly.
"Master and Commander"
Channel four had it on again on Saturday a really underrated film. I'm not a great lover of Russel Crow but he does excel as a British captain even if he is an Aussie,
I not a great lover of advert channels as they destroy watching a film, although channel 4 have produced some of the best films even if they are a little gritty at showing some of the erm............... wilder side of British life!
