I was offered some small plants the other day from a nice ole German chap at the allotment!! He said they were Blue Sprouts?? :P Did I hear him right? I asked him a couple of times to explain and yes he did say Blue Sprouts... Said they would be ready in March....So basically I have put something in my allotment which I have no idea what it is!! Unless somebody can enlighten me! Maybe he meant Purple Brocoli....
BLUE SPROUTS=PURPLE BROCOLI Sound like each other if you say it really really quickly
Purple/red sprouts - don't know about blue! = Tim
Think you may have to wait and see.
I hope you said "yes" - did you?
Try 'em, find out what you can, and see what you get --- and let us know!!!
Dunno about other places, but most allotment sites in Leeds have their elderly Polish/Ukrainian/whatever gentleman - who ignores all the books and advice; who does very little hard labour; and grows the most magnificent crops.
A wonderful fund of knowledge and experience (- if only I could speak Polish :()
All best - Gavin

Ve ave vays ov makinz yu grow..
Hi Adam. It took me a while to figure out what people meant when they were talking about sprouting, purple sprouting or something like that. Turns out to be broccoli (I think) but.............sprouts are like Brussels sprouts, you know, the winter veggie that grows the little balls up the stem and are best eaten after a good frost has gone over them. Soooooooo, they are probably purple Brussels sprouts.
Ina,
Yea I think you may be right... Its the only thing it could be.! Thats fine though!! He did say it wont be ready until March time.. so a fair way off yet.

I think you will find it is "Purple sprouting Broccolli" I grew some last year and it does go in about now and is ready in March.Would advise giving it plenty of room tho as it grows BIG :D.Best wishes with it......Alan
Let's bet a dinner over it Alan. A German would never call broccoli "sprouts". On the other hand.......ready in March? That's kind of late for Brussels sprouts mmmmmmmmmm.
Adam, can't you show a picture of broccoli and a picture of Brussels sprouts to Mr. Blauspraut and let him point out which one it is?
Hi Ina ...ok your on :D ......Alan
Adam, I and SURE have seen purple (not blue!) brussel sprouts on ebay for sale (although looking at the moment there are typically non on there! Worth having a look now and then though! ;D
