Title: Jeannine, your recommendation of a squash?
Post by: GrannieAnnie on March 17, 2008, 09:30:46
Having read you grow 200 varieties of squash :o you take the record! We've only grown a couple and I was wondering which you find the tastiest?

Obviously Jeannine will know more than me, but I can recommend Black Futsu and Crown Prince. They grew best for me last year and tasted superb.

I grew quite a few last year. The best by far was the acorn squash. I dont know what type it was, as my plant labels all bleached in the sun ::)

I recommend buttercup/kaboucha squash (dark green with silver-grey stripes). http://www.nzbsc.com/english/index.html
The other one I would grow if I couldn't get the seeds for the above is Crown Prince.

Now after reading that link I know how to cut it without nearly killing myself each time......I remember my Mum taking an axe to one in desperation.....the skins aren't really that thick though and i usually eat the skin as well after roasting very good source of fibre.

It was too cold last year for my Galeux d'Eysines to grow.
