Title: Water butt for growing strawberries
Post by: davholla on March 14, 2008, 14:43:01
Hi, this can be done can't it ?  I have many in pots which to be honest like untidy.
So I was thinking of getting an old water butt, filing it with a mix of manure, compost and grit and (any advice on the right quantities welcome) and replanting some of my many strawberry runners or maybe leaving it til next years are produced.

Don't see why not. The problem most people report is the difficulty in getting water to spread evenly in a tall container. Hopefully expert will be along shortly as I'm toying with this as well.

Sink an old drain pipe with large holes drilled at different levels. This should aid the watering.

They look very like my painted lady runners from years ago.
