I pruned this a few weeks ago and again on Saturday (I missed a bit).
I planted the cuttings in tubs with rooting hormone and the buds are opening.
When can I plant them out ?
Not for a while yet, the buds will always open and give the impression that the cutting is growing. However, it will take some time for roots to develop. Leave the cuttings in the pot until you see the roots begining to show through the drainage holes. Then you can separate them and preferably put each rooted cutting into its own pot ready to plant out maybe next spring.
If they put out a lot of leaves rub off the buds except for a couple to reduce water loss while they root. Cuttings are best done in Autumn for that reason. I put about thirty in the ground last October and most are beginning to break bud now.. so if they fail let me know!
