I don't know how I missed them. Maybe I have been too busy getting rid of the greenfly and whitefly on my seedlings. I tried vacuuming them off the potatoes but they just sat tight. I may try running them under the tap and then spraying with Fairy Liquid watered down. As if I haven't got enough to do what with sowing and potting on.
I know where they came from. I brought my orchid in from the front porch when it was flowering and found it was covered in them. I took it back again 4 weeks ago but these critters have survived. I know now where they were lurking, on the bl**dy potatoes. Am I fuming!! >:(
I would expect them to die off when you plant them which shouldn't be far away.
does liquid derris kill whitefly?
Thank you for your replies.
I don't want to put any chemicals on them and it may be a few weeks before I can get them planted. However, they have all been put under the tap then dipped in a mixture of Fairy Liquid and water. Perhaps if I do it weekly they may be kept under control.
hands that do spuddies can be cleared of the flies
with white fly fairy liquid ;D
Groan.............................oh dear, were you bored?
Actually that was very good ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Nice one!
But would not a fast tap/hose be just as effective? Detergent is not designed for plants.

I like it Calendula. ;D ;D ;D
Tim, I put them under a fast tap. I was under the impression that detergent water is a good way of getting rid of green and white fly without harming the plants. Fortunately they look all right this morning, none the worse for their final dip.
Detergent water bad.
Soapy water good.
