Between the 1st May 2007 and now I have pulled 362 Kg of prepared edible produce from my 2/3 sized plot and am still cropping leeks, carrots, celeriac, parsnips, swede, sprouts, chard and spinach with spring cabbage and purple sprouting broccoli to come. As I threw away 40Kg of Blighted potatoes, I hope to reach 500Kg this year.
Has anyone else weighed everything? I would be interested to hear.

How much time do you need to spend on the allotment ?
1 hour a week in Winter.
10-20 hours a week in Spring.
1-7 hours a week in Summer
2 hours a week in Autumn.
(I would spend more time if my wife would let me!)
well done you that should give you a sense of achievement ;)
Thats fantastic, it just shows when the plot has been cleared and all the hard graft is out of the way, you can take things a bit easier for great rewards! ;D
Great to be young!!
I didn't weigh crops but kept a running hash mark page posted on the refrigerator of the number of servings of each crop.
My crop does not last long enough to get weighed ;D. It is a thought for the future though.

I had about that much just in French climbing beans alone... Don't think I'll sow so many this year! :o
I must admit I don't keep a check on my production. I just grow as much as i can - and eat it!
Can't eat everything, two plots & only two of us - but I try hard!!
As regards to keeping a check on harvesting I keep a spread sheet and record the price of my crops at what I would pay at the shops. Last year was a bad year with a poor harvest due to the monsoon that lasted most of the summer but my harvest still came to £395.00. The year before I harvested £986.00 which is about what I`m hoping for in a normal good year. I have two plots and grow soft fruit and veg also some dahlias and annual flowers to bring in the bees and other little friendly insects.
I didnt keep a check on weights, so am not sure, but I know it was a poor harvest because of the weather.
Even so, we are still eating courgettes , beans, broccoli, blackcurrants, apples and raspberries from the freezer. At this time of year,, I must be saving pounds! I also have 2 squash left, and some sprouts and leeks still in the ground.
I am planning to grow lots more pepper and tomatoes this year, as they are great to freeze.
cj :)
Don't weigh my stuff either I am afraid. As long as I am not being veg or soft frut from the shops I am happy. So far only had to buy tropical and citrus fruits, and apples because I don't have trees on the lottie and none at home, manage to scrump damsons from the common. ;D Damsons were excellent this year. ;D
I don't like frozen veg so eat what grows on the lottie in the season, although I do make chutneys and jams so lots of thse this year.
I expect that I will discover the hungry gap around end of April or May though - and have to buy an organic box for a few weeks. :'(
being should be buying. I don't know whats happened to my typing recently. LOL

Tomatoes are great to freeze???
I freeze the smaller and cherry ones. When I am ready, I pop them in an ovenproof bowl with garlic, chilli, olive oil and basil, bake them for half an hour and have them with some bread to mop up the juices. Yummy :P
cj :)
I freeze the big ones too,the skins slip off beautifully and they are perfect for sauces.
I think I am going to raid the fridge right now for cherry ones Caroline,,sound perfect for a midnight snack
XX Jeannine
I grew black cherry toms last year. They were the sweetest I have ever tasted. The only problem with them is managing not to eat them all on the way home from the lottie ::)
Hadnt thought about freezing big ones .The skin coming off easily sounds great. I will give it a go this year.
Enjoy your snack, Jeannine ;D
cj :)
I am surprised that no-one else seems to have kept a weight record.
I think that local authorities would be spurred into action if they knew how much was produced and how many air miles etc were saved, not to mention recycling of garden compost, wood, plastics and the heath benefits of exercise.
I would love to have details from the more obsessive of you.
Vegetables must be weighed as sold by a geengrocer, trimmed but not ready for the pot I wil publish results on my site.
