Title: no eggs
Post by: Tohellwithweeds on March 04, 2008, 10:35:40
Ive had Gert for about ten weeks now and haven't had a single egg from her  :( :o :o
Am i doing something wrong? I feed her on layers pellets, oyster shell, grit, greens, and corn for a treat but still no eggs :o :o. Ive checked her over for a blockage there isn't one I'm not sure of her age as her previous owner wasn't sure.
could it be that she is on her own with only Bert for company and doesn't know what to do yet or have i just got a dud hen all advice more than welcome thanks

How old is she?
What breed is she?
How many hens do you have?
Are any others laying?
Was she a late addition to your flock?

If you only have one hen and one cockerel - she will possibly always be getting bullied which will put her off laying.

Or - She could be past her laying age. Possibly time to be replaced.

Gert is much bigger than Bert and she is the boss he follows her about like a lost sheep so i don't think that's it and i know she isn't to old as the previous owner hatched her but couldn't remember how old she was may be she is just to young yet

Try putting a china egg in the nest box.  It works for my hens.

Hi

Do you know whether the previous owner had been receiving eggs from gert?  I guess you have to question why the previous owner got rid of her? (Sorry - that wasnt very positive!)

Have you checked her out for lice?  Does she go to bed easily (if not you may have red mite problems) lice and red mite will stop her laying.

I have four girls but all four in the first year of life so i am still getting four eggs a day (that will slow down soon as there second year is coming soon).

Let me know how gert gets on.

Gert goes to bed no problem and Ive checked her for every thing  ::) ::). the previous owner gave her away as she just didn't have the room for her and she hatched her and said she hadn't had an egg as she was still to young so maybe she is still to young i will just have to keep my fingers crossed that that's it as i luv her to bits and would hate anything to be a miss with her.  Thanks  for the concern
