Title: Artichokes
Post by: Vortex on March 03, 2008, 22:26:58
If anybody is local to Bracknell I have a supply of Fuseau Jerusalem artichokes. I grew these last year as a trial but we don't like them.
I also have a supply, as root cuttings of a globe artichoke, grown by a previous plot holder.

Word of warning though - both of these can be classed as invasive if not controlled. The Jerusalem artichokes are best planted in a raised bed which gives the best form of control - think Mint.
The globe artichoke is developed from the cardoon, which is a member of the thistle family. when established the roots go down over 3 feet and the plant will regrow, better than bind weed, from any small amount of root left in the ground.

Which reminds me I need to shift my cardoon to a flower bed besfore it starts growing too rampantly!
