well done babybird you must have a big pat on the back for taking the plunge. i gave up four years ago and i have never regretted it for a day.  my only regret is that i didnt do it ten years earlier.

if it is getting difficult then just remember how well you have done thus far and think positive thoughts. if you get a craving (if!! :P) then find something that will distract you for fifteen or twenty minutes and the craving will pass. you have passed the forty eight hour physical withdrawl and anything you feel now is purely psycological.  dont give in!!!

in a week or two give yourself a big treat and keep up the good work.

Well done babybird.  Dont give in.  Gave up 7/8 weeks ago now.  It is really difficult but you do save loads.  Still craving now and again but went completely cold turkey.  It kills for a few days but you soon get over it.  Well done. :)

Well done!  Keep up the good work and just think of all the lottie supplies you can buy now!  I'm booked in for hypnotherapy in middle of march to help me kick it too.  Fingers crossed!

14 months for me ( after hypnotherapy ) and now when I see people smoking it looks so alien.

I dont have any more money but have loads more stamina and can dig for hours.

I started at 15 which was 25 years ago, and regret every day I smoked now.

Best of luck to anyone who gives up, just dont ever think 'one wont hurt!!'

I suggest you put what was your cigarette money in a jar and see how quickly it builds up. I bet it would pay for a weeks holiday each year, go on do it :)

that will pass i promise.  soon you will reap the benefits of it. you will be able to dig for longer and one day you will be climbing up your local hill and realise you have got to the top without gasping for air.  keep it up.  ;) one day at a time.

I wish I could have your willpower, I have tried so mant times but smoking is my stress reliver when even the lottie doesn't work.  I must admit I love smoking, but its just too much money

Caseylee, it may seem a stress reliever but think of the damage it is doing to your heart and lungs.

I was on 60 a day 33 years ago and gave up by gradually cutting down.  I would count out my cigarettes for each day and stick to that amount.  We didn't have nicotine patches to help us.  My husband gave up at the same time.  We made a list of all the reasons to give up and there are quite a few when you begin listing them.  Here are just a few:

You will probably live longer by not smoking.

By continuing to smoke you may well die from heart disease or have lung cancer or emphacemia.  My mother-in-law died from the latter and it was awful watching her fight for breath.  I can only liken it to being slowly strangled to death but over several days.

Smoking around others can put them at considerable risk.  My m-i-l did not smoke much in her latter years but her husband was a chain smoker and smoked indoors.

Hair and clothes smell.

Breath smells.

Teeth become stained

Rooms need redecorating far more often.

Money spent on cigarettes could pay for a lovely holiday.

Setting a bad example to others.  Children who see adults smoking will probably try it themselves.

Good luck to everyone who is trying to give up.  I will add by saying that it was the most difficult thing I have ever done.

What's in Tobacco?

There are more than 4,000 chemicals found in cigarettes (250 are toxic poisons, 50 cause cancer) Some chemicals found in tobacco include:

Ammonia (found in toilet bowl cleaner); Arsenic (ingredient in rat poison); Polonium 210 (nuclear waste); Carbon Monoxide (car exhaust); Acetone (used in finger nail polish remover)

i had a job to breath before i gave up, at 37 though i suppose it really starts getting a hold of you, then its all downhill from there.
Disgusting habit.

my OH and I gave up smoking in october and we're doing really well.
we used the paul mckenna hypnosis CD, a bit weird at first but it worked.
I still fancy a f*g sometimes but it's just not part of our "healthy" lifestyle.

our next challenge is to give up or stop drinking so much red wine..... ::)
they say it's good for you though ;D

That is a common misconception there are actually 599 additives (37 of which are known to be carcinogenic) which are approved for use in tobacco when these are heated there are over 4000 chemical compounds that could potentially be formed. However most manufacturers would only include a small number of these additives in each product & not all would be chemicals there would be things like sugar, cocoa, liquorice etc... to add flavour. Some manufacturers are now offering additive free and/or organic tobacco products such as 'American Spirit™' or 'Pueblo™'

My own tobacco contains none of these additives & costs around £0.02 per ounce to produce. Whilst I would never encourage anyone to take up smoking & I believe that people who choose to give up are doing a good thing those people who choose to smoke anyway do not have to spend a fortune neither do they have to consume a load of nasty chemicals they can grow their own as I do.

There ain't nothing worse than an ex smoker. They nag and moan all the time trying to get you to join them. Go on, have a smoke littlebabybird, you don't sound as if you are quite ready to give up yet. As for springbok don't listen to them, you carry on until you feel you want to stop. Not when everybody else wants you to.

I stopped 10 weeks ago because I wanted to, no pressure from anybody else, apart from not wanting to stand outside of the pub if I fancied a smoke. I still love the smell of tobacco  burning, but I don't think I could smoke one.

standing outside a pub smoking, that was another reason of many, how can they charge you all that money for a pint, when you drink and smoke outside, may aswell go to the off licence and buy four tinnies and sit outside and drink them!!! much cheaper.

well done babybird you have done the hardest part.  you must still stay onthe ball though and not get caught out by 'the odd one'. can i suggest that you go and blow your 35 quid on something frivolous like lovely smelling bath stuff or a new hair do or sommat as a reward to yourself.  its a good incentive.

Yes, but you have to push your way through all the smoking/binging teenagers who hang outside offies.
