Title: Prowd owners of our first allotment
Post by: Dotty on March 01, 2008, 10:53:09
Hi All,

Just acquired our first allotment 2 weeks ago. Its 4mtrs by 36mtrs.  We've been digging and planning...  would you be able to give me a very basic run down of what I should do first and then the rest I'll learn as I go.  We've fenced off our plot to stop pesky rabbits from getting in.

I wanted to upload a pic of my plan to show you to see if I was on the right track - clicked Insert Image but just got tags. How do I upload?

Thanks in advance...

Not if you host it yourself.
Upload it to your webspace (see your service provider's website for instructions),
then type in the URL between the tags.

I'm sure somebody will be along in a minute to tell you how to you use photobucket.

Welcome aboard BTW.  :D

I think you've got it well sussed  8)

maybe get some manure on quick before you plant the spuds, enrich the area where the beans are going (if they are runner beans) and also the courgette and asparagus area, lime the brassicas if the soil needs it (peas like lime as well), take a seat down, make notes of all you do and enjoy  :)

Thanks for the welcome... and the advice... you all seem as dotty as I am ;D

We're off now to the allotment to set out the beds, make a raised bed for the salad stuff and plant the raspberries.  You said about onions and leeks... can I plant them yet? Or is it too early!

Its such a beautiful day!!!!!!!
