Mine's not looking too healthy either so know how u feel.  someone on here was saying how they've used all the poles from their damaged one to construct fruit cages and bean wigwams, so there may be a use for whatever's left.  Chin up  ;)

Mine has now sadly lost its fight for life.  Had to call my brother down to help me get plastic under control, then dismantle what was left of it in the dark!  Lost an apple tree, raspberry and 3 strawberries, so damage has been limited thank heavens.

I had that too two years ago. My greenhouse was full of seedlings at the time and I actually cried. :'(
I haven't bothered replacing the cover. It's now used as a pot stand. ::) I'd love to have a proper glass green house!

Aw SBL and Posie, I feel for you both. I bought a B&Q  poly and alluminium one from someone on the forum. We only managed to get half of it 'glazed', and its not screwed down yet. Its now sitting outside tied up with rope to anything that doesnt move untill we can finish building it.

Its trying its best to escape though :-\ :-\

Errrrmm, I remember this happening last year. I put bricks on the bottom shelf and tied strong string round like a parcel (both ways) and it survived. Worth a go?

Mine was tied down and weighted with everything I could find, but sadly it didn't work, so I'm going to use the poles for the fruit cage and the plastic I'm going to cut up and use as a diy cold frame over some old timber I've got.  Did have a bit of cry over the patio apple tree last night, but think I've managed to salvage some of the strawberries.  :)  Am now going to repair my fence which was also damaged last night.  Don't you just love the great British weather lol

Mine has survived the winds, thankfully.  It is standing against a wall in the garden and OH has put some pipe clips (the sort that are used for copper piping) into the wall which are just the right size to clip the frame onto.  Just have to be careful not to rip the plastic covering when you clip it on.  Seems to have held it pretty steady so far.  :)

I have lost my polytunnel cover... the door frame had rotted at the base and the wind got in and threw it over the roof... it is now lying down the outside and there is a huge gash in the polytunnel and 1/4 of the cover lying down... I'll get at it with the tape when the wind drops but I'll need anew cover for the season...  :'(

The plastic one was tied up against a wall, with weights... but it still dissapeared and smashed to bits.

Sorry to hear about your greenhouse Springbokgirlie, i had a lucky escape coz it was blowing like crazy here in Norfolk, and nextdoor lost a couple of fence panels, but my glass greenhouse escaped unscathed, maybe it's well sheltered? Looking on the bright side of things, there are still some more plastic greenhouse's going cheap in Woolies, and other DIY stores, if you have a bit of spare cash!! :) :)

We had 2 panes of the polycarbonate blown out of the greenhouse door, and the perspex panel that was in the window has sailed over the fence into the school field and broken in 2!! The polycarbonate panels were OK, just did an emergency duct tape repair job and taped a sheet of thick polythene around the window. Hope it all holds for tonight. Didn't plan on going down the lottie tomorrow as it's Mother's day and we're taking the 2 Mums out for lunch. Will have to pop down there afterwards to make sure all is OK.

Oh no.  Well I bought mine from Morrisons last week and was soooo pleased.  It blew down and broke yesterday so I phoned them up and took it back today.  I even forgot to take the receipt with me and they still gave me my money back!!!  It might be worth a try.  Going to have a look on freecycle to see if I can get a 'real' one.  :)

I confess that I only use them inside my ordinary unheated greenhouse to give a bit more protection for non hardy plants, then take the covers off as the weather warms up and move them outside as extra shelving for a 'hardening off' area...

I lost mine to the heavy rain last year, had managed to win against the wind earlier in the year by using bricks and rope to tie it down.  I constructed a fruit cage with the remaining poles but have now lost that to the wind.  I didn't think having it covered with netting would catch the wind but it seems it can get hold of anything.  Not sure if I'll be able to think of another use for the poles now that the plastic connectors have all smashed!

I did get mine off freecycle though (in fact it was 2 that I'd cobbled together) so haven't lost out in monetary terms, still annoying though.

My 12' lottie greenhouse was roofed with polytunnel plastic, which was already showing some signs of wear/splitting just before the winter.  I'm actually putting off going round there because I know it's going to be in shreds now.  :'(

As for our 4 x 6 aluminium garden greenhouse - is it possible to make a mosaic out of broken glass?  ::)

AND (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y253/nonrancher/b40087f9.jpg)
AND some of the wire shelves wired together to form triangles or squares to support tall plants in the garden, They're green and blend right in. Too cold to go out and take a pix today.

Excellent idea Riffster!  :D

Springbokgirlie - a fruitcage is a mesh-covered 'pen' for your soft fruit plants and shrubs.  Stops them escaping.  ;)

Or stops the birds getting at them, whichever is the most likely.  ;D

Looking around our garden we have a lot of those green pipes and connectors, left over from previous years 3 and 4 tier greenhouses.   Most have become staging in the main glass house, and polycarbonate greenhouses.

But I bet I could cobble something together.

And the fruit cage will be massive,   based upon a 3M gazebo :-) I'll post a picture when its done.

I bought one yesterday and intend putting it up in the unheated greenhouse to give extra protection against frosts and give me additional shelving.  It wouldn't last 5 minutes outside as I live in a very windy spot.

mine last year was wrecked by the wind, the plastic was ripped all over .so we took the frame and put it in the lobby ,it makes brilliant racking for potato chitting ,i also have some chillie on there growing .best thing is when the weather is a little better and the chillies are in the green house and the spuds are in the ground i can take the racking down.
i brought a bigger one this year focus had the large ones on offer they are normally 27.99 they were selling them for 13.00

Well I bought a 3 tier one today which I'm hoping won't be too bad if we have bad weather again, but I have a question (probably a stupid one!).  I've almost run out of room in it, before I dash off to get another one, could I maybe stack the propagators up? Or would that block out the light too much.  They're the bog standard ones with plastic lids (non-heated).   ;D

Hi Posie
I have limited space in my greenhouse and I had to stack two of the plastic propagators on top of each other and they all germinated.

I too had a plastic greenhouse which only lasted 6 months before it ripped to shreds. I still have all the staging for it in my home made greenhouse, works great. I used the top of it over a small section of garden with netting over it to stop my cats getting to the lettuce and radishes.

:o  I had one of those types of greenhouses about three years ago and my late dog bless his heart took an instant dislike to it and managed to get a grip on the door that was flapping in the breeze at the time (my daughter was in the greenhouse when the incident took place) and once Bruno had a hold he just kept on pulling.... needless to say one minute I had a plastic type greenhouse, the next the whole thing was ripped and pulled to the ground!!! I was shocked and upset and yet at the same time the whole incident was extremely funny!!! and so out of character for Bruno that I could not be angry with him... his dislike for it was most intense and I never bothered to replace it..... My daughter and son decided a few months later for my birthday to chip together and buy me a glass greenhouse which has being a fantastic gift and their kindness and thoughfulness did make me cry.... tears of happiness!!

Dogs can be so funny,my little westie hates us to open and close the blinds.
She barks at them and jumps up at our legs.We have to try to remember to lock her out of the room when we open or close them. :)

;D ;D ;D ;D Your westie sounds delightful!! Its quite endearing all their little quirks.... Bruno is sadly with us no more..... but we do now have our Border Collie who we call Basil... now Basil hates anyone sneezing.... if anyone in the house sneezes then he goes and hides..... we have no idea why he should but guess he just does not like the sneezing sound??? We all find ourselves trying to get into another room when we want to sneeze, just so we do not upset him!!

I did actually end up getting a 4 tier one from focus in the end (I'm very impressed, it's very sturdy and only £13.99), however due to my ever growing seed fetish, I'm about to run out of space in that one too!!! Somebody save me from myself!!!  In my defence, I'm growing my flowers from seed this year and I'm also growing some stuff for a sensory garden for autistic children too.  However, I need to be able to walk into a shop and walk out without buying more!!!   ;D ;D ;D ;D

On the subject of mad dogs, Hamish my rescue springer hates my chenille gloves, he savages me everytime he sees them, doesn't mind woolly ones or my gardening ones, just the chenille ones.  Mind you, he's not quite all there bless him!  ;D

We've not got a greenhouse down or lotty, so we picked up a plastic one from Wickes the other day for £12. It's affixed to the wall with a screw and plug.

The drainpipe from the washing basin got in the way though, so I had to feed it through the greenhouse by cutting a hole in the sides, and a hole in one of the trays!!!

Timiano you might find that with the covers on your seed trays inside your greenhouse that the seeds will be over hot and dry out quickly ;)
