Title: Black buckets
Post by: Shelle on February 29, 2008, 17:19:24
When do Morrisons and the like start selling their florist buckets?

Desperately need some for my potatoes soon, but none in sight so far.

All year round, because they are used for flowers. Just ask in the store.

Have you access to a Wilkinsons? They sell black 2 gal buckets at £0.99 each. A bit more expensive than the flower buckets but they have a handle which makes moving them easy. I used them for spuds last year and they worked very well. Only grew early varieties, with about 6 buckets in the GH and about 20 outside on the patio.

Hi Shelle
Do you have a 'proper' florists anywhere near you?  Our local florist gets his flowers in black oblong plastic containers (about 15" x 10") which are non returnable and he's glad to find homes for them.  They are bigger than the buckets (from Morrisons) and with holes drilled in them, ideal for potatoes.  Maybe worth you asking around.

try Asda - they throw out the black buckets and often have loads to go - I got 120 free!

Thanks for all your suggestions!  Have an asda, sainsburys, somerfield and a florist nearby.

Looks like I will hqave to pluck up my courage to ask :o  Might see if I can persuade mam to come with me and ask (as I am deaf and hate talking to strangers!!), you never know I might be the new proud owner after this weekend :)

I just asked at Tescos and they said they reuse theirs.  Shame as I was already making plans for the lovely square buckets.

I'll try Asda next.

Should be a good weekend to get them, with it being mother's day!

Success  ;D

managed to get some at Morrisons, although had to pay 99p for 8 ???  Got 24 for £3 so not as bad as paying 69p each at wilkos (although I love wilcos).
