Title: Painting the fence (posts)
Post by: Pesky Wabbit on February 28, 2008, 21:00:34
I have been commissioned by OH to paint the fence by Easter. Its a wooden panel fence with concrete posts.

However, we have a disagreement.  Should I paint the posts the same colour as the fence, should I paint them a wood brown colour or should I leave them concrete coloured ?

What would you do ?

Leave them concrete coloured, a nice bit of contrast never hurt anybody.   :D

Brown paint never looks natural.

Leaving them concrete coloured would mean less work too.  ;D

Depends what you're planting against the fence too.

Have seen painted concrete posts flake after a while, specially if facing the sun.

I agree with ninnyscrops - flaking paint looks horrible. Even if you use masonary paint, it'll start flaking off eventually.

Have you thought about growing a nice climber up the fence & posts instead - passionflower is pretty quick growing

I guess that 5 votes for leaving them natural.

The rest or the fence will be a deep red-brown to show off the plants, whilst not being too dark.

It does mean more work, masking off and all that. I hate the splattered look.
