We did ours in the cold greenhouse last year but on the packet they said keep out of direct sunlight. We put ours under the staging and they germinated fine.
Dont harvest this year though.

I have a Victoria Rhubarb which I grew from seed three years ago, I have left it alone to build up a good root. This spring I hope to pull my first harvest of stems, Ummmmmm looking forwards to tasting it. I sewed the seeds in the April  and transplanted it in the September in its final position.

I planted early red on 20th Feb. 24 seeds in. Since Thursday I've had 13 come through. Am pleased so far...
They were in the bathroom but are now on the study windowsill.

What varieties are you sowing. My son loves rhubarb and I am keen to grow several different types. I have seeds for Glaskins Perpetual and some from SoI (don't know the variety, if anyone can translate I would be grateful!!)

I grow Timperley Early

And Victoria

This way I should get rhubarb in spring and late summer. My crowns are only in their 2nd year so I wont harvest till their third. It will get better established.

New rhubarb is best grown by splitting an existing crown.
Victoria is probably the best of the crop raised from seed. Timperley Early is a good one and ideal for forcing.
Getting seed to table in under 4 years is pushing it a bit. Far better to start off with a piece from another plant.

if an established crown has been split how long do you have to wait to harvest from it again?
