with three hungry birds in the house and always looking for something new and interesting to grow has anyone tried growing millet, i always have some in the house so could germinate the seeds from there, any one tried it any ideas?

It's a large tropical grass, which was a staple in Africa before the introduction of maize which is much heavier-yielding. I don't know, but I suspect you might need to grow in under glass.

Don't know about growing millet but real seeds offer a couple of grain types to grow in the UK: amaranth and quinoa. see http://www.realseeds.co.uk/grains.html  :)

Seems like it might be foxtail millet possibly.

yes certainly sounds like foxtail millet, have heard about quinoa being good for birds too, may give it a go, got nothing to lose lol  :)
