Clearing a bed in my front garden I came across a plant in the ground which by looking up with pictures is a Peony.
Its pretty large, cant it be split this time of year?
Any advice welcome :D
ours is just starting to grow, they flower fairly early so I split them in autumn, also, they don't like to be buried too deep or they don't flower, hope this helps :)
A conditional yes. It is better done in autumn, but as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged you can do it now, but sooner than later bevore the roots really get going. Do not plant deeply, the big fat buds on top of the 'tubers' (not really but that is what they look like), should be out of the ground. They need cold ripening to induce flowering. You may lose flowers for this year, or if the buds have already developed, then next year. But we have moved them around a fair number of times with no trouble.
They're easy to move; you certainly won't kill them, but you may well lose the flowers for this year. I've moved them at all sorts of times and never done worse than that.
