Title: Bay tree care
Post by: Georgie on February 10, 2008, 16:40:42
I bought my Bay tree in 2006.  It's due for repotting now so two questions if I may.  Should I repot it now or wait until spring?  And similalry, it needs a trim so should I prune it straight after repotting and when is the best time of year to do it?  I've read late winter, spring and autumn so I'm confused!

I will try to answer the question rather than re-directing you.
If you are not likely to get frost then you can repot any time from now on. Give it a good soaking before you do.
Summer is generally the time for pruning Bay, but it would probably do no harm to remove any damaged material after you have repotted.

You would be getting new leaves shortly I wouldn't prune it until after they've been produced. i often repot mine in March.

Thank you.  I think I'll wait a while to repot it and prune it from what you say.  There's no rush.   :)
