(well, Dan did say "don't be afraid to ask") LOL
I've some small and annoying patches in one of the lawns. I know the cause...oil spillage by me which killed the grass off :-[ Because the marauding pigeons aren't satisfied with the psb I kindly left them, I'll have difficulty in covering the scattered patches with seeds while they germinate......so.....
What if....(using the same principle as growing mustard&cress as a child), I seeded onto several thick layers of damp kitchen paper indoors & planted out onto prepared soil once roots were established?
Go on...tell me it'll work....please?! And, if so, optimum time to do it?
I find the easiest way is to mix grass seed with a bit of compost in a covered container, keep indoors, then when most of the seed has germinated a few days later scatter over the area that needs reseeding. It starts growing immediately & gets established in no time.
Ideal time is September/October next best is February-May.
..thanks BM..and that way, safe from pigeons & other birds? (We've gotta lotta birds)
I don't know if it will be safe from birds not really an issue around here, too many birds of prey for the pigeons to risk staying in the same place too long. Have you got any bramble stems you could lay over the patches to discourage them until the grass has taken.
:-\...I'd thought of re-seeding & erecting barriers (as I do elsewhere in the veggie plots - tho that's mainly to deter cats) but....hmmm..will give it some more thought.. Thanks.
If you've got bits of lawn growing into a flower bed or something you can always dig them up and put them in the bare patches.
