I sowed some onion seed (Pink Torpedos) in a supersprouter 11 days ago and still nothing is showing. It's in a frost free greenhouse (i.e. I have a heater that cuts in at 5degC).
Should I put them somewhere warmer, or start again somewhere warmer?
PS Haven't tried onion from seed before
I take it there's a lid on the seeder? I did mine in an unheated mini propagator last year but I also covered the compost with a piece of black bin bag.
It's always an idea to sow into room temp compost. It can save quite a bit of time waiting for it to warm up.
5deg. sounds right to me, just enough to keep the real cold away. I'd give them anything up to 21 days at this time of year.
Thanks Kenkew - will remove finger from panic button!
I would put them somewhere warmer, they like bottom heat.
If you have more seed left I would suggest you sow some more as back up, and keep them quite warm 60°-70°F(16°-21°C) if you can.
This is how I do mine and they are through within 4-5 days; http://tinyurl.com/ysulwr
Thanks TeeGee - plenty of seeds left - just a matter of convincing OH to let me bring propagators inside. ;)
