Our fence is in desperate need of an upgrade. The council are useless and unimaginative (Hounslow). A fellow plotter managed to get hold of some chain link that was being replaced at the local college and we have used that for repairs - but that palisade fencing would take more than a pair of pliers to break........
Please share - which grant, how do you demonstrate community use?? and everything ;D

there's a post on this thread, new grants for allotments, smp..we just put down how many people benefit from us growing our own.. including all our families, friends, neighbours we supply..and the local community, lots of pensioners and local disabled groups, because we have a plant sale..stops them having to trail all the way to garden centres, b&q or asda for baskets, shrubs and bedding plants,
just have to enthuse and carry through with your plans....any more help, let me know , mal :)
That's one bootiful fence, manics! Well done again with your perseverance!
Any fence is better than none at all, I know. Yours is much better than our cheapo wire mesh fence with wooden posts. Sections of it have been cut and nicked already, only been up 4-5 months!

it's the result of 2 parts of grants, cost about 5,000, that includes the front part of the plots as well though..we're ordering the poly next week and will be getting i up, weather permitting, 16th onwards :)
That seems like a good deal - Did you buy the materials and build it yourself? Or did the council provide labour?

we bought the fence and paid for it to be put up, the first fencer sc**ed it up, the guy we have now is a gem

Looks like our fence.
Unfortunatly the vandal have started prying bars off with long levers and still get in...we are currently awaiting a large number of thorny hedge whips to re-inforce the fence ::)
But, even though our fence isn't perfect it's still much better than nothing...at least it makes them go to some effort to get in.

I am surprised that anything can get through that fence! Wow it would keep a rhinocerous in!
Luckily (touch wood) we don't have a problem with vandals on our plot but it must be so horrible for you lot that do - our fencing is very basic post and rail stuff - with sheep netting to stop animals but WOW that is some fence!
Hope it works well for many years to come. It will be pretty useful as a wind deflector as well I would think!

My allotment back onto some house's and once I clear all the horrible shrubs away they ahve no fence there, can I ask the council to put fencing up there cause I believe they are responsible for the maintaning of the surround of the allotment.
