As a newby have just begun reading a few of the old posts in Top Ideas Forum and
was wondering how many of you have stuck with making your own
seed tape out of newspaper? some had planned to try it. I was thinking it would be nice for alyssum,
and other tiny seeds, no prolonged bending over...
Actually was thinking of doing a seedtape with carrot seeds?
any ideas if seeds mixed with some sort of paste would work?? thought of making a paste with cornflour.will it reduce need to thin carrots??or is it a daft idea??

Its a good idea, though I still haven't got round to doing the seedtapes. Its a task for the cold and wintery days (still with us). Perhaps I'll get round to doing them one of these days (years), maybe while sitting at computer desk and watching a dvd.
There wa a thread about this a couple of years ago & i posted
the method i use & have had great results & use them every year
& no need to thin out.

Wow. Impressed. And it was me that started that thread in Oct 2004! Still no sign of flying pigs...
It gave me an idea to do with the little grandkiddies- having them cut out big shapes in newspaper and sprinkling one color flower seed on the paste for them to grow. Maybe a big white alyssum heart or their initial.
doesn't wallpaper paste have a fungicide in, does it affect plant growth ?
can we get it without the fungicide ? :)

I think you might have to use tweezers ::)
How far in advance can you make them? does the moisture of the 'glue' start the seed germination? this would be fantastic for me my husband goes mad at my iratic seed sowing im useless at getting them even or in straight lines this sounds a winner! ;D
I scatter the carrot seeds so there is no need to sow in straight lines. No thinning either - just weeding.

Hazelize- :D from your little running emoticon person it LOOKS like you'd have trouble sowing straight! hehehe!
That might be where i'm going wrong! i must remember to stop bouncing up and down while im sowing hehehehe ::)
These are the ones made up for this season about 400 seeds
