Title: Spring Bulbs .. silly question
Post by: otto_nowak on January 28, 2008, 19:28:07
I have some scilla and other spring flowering bulbs which I meant to divide last autumn.  Seeing them again I realise how congested they are, although they are still a way off flowering.   Is it too late to divide them now?

Any advice would be appreciated !

I would leave them alone until after they have flowered now. If you give them a light feed of a high potash fertilizer it will help them form good bulbs ready for when you move them later in the year. Many bulbs are quite happy when crowded.

I've tried digging some up to pot up indoors for a parent and they snap off no matter how carefully I dug.
The potash idea sounds best.
