Title: Feeding Spring Bulbs
Post by: Pesky Wabbit on January 26, 2008, 22:29:06
Should I feed the Snowdrops and Daffs now, or leave it until  the flowers fade ?

What Should I feed them with - is growmore ok ?

I grow daffodils for showing and so want the best, I feed now with Vitax Q4. This improves the colour and helps build up the bulbs. This is now granular so there is less risk of it staying on the foliage. Snowdrops do not usually need feeding provided the foliage is allowed to mature after flowering.

I do follow the spring bulb rule, that you should leave the foliage for at least 6 weeks before removing, but have wondered if an extra feed is worth while.

Hi

I often use growmore around this time on bulbs, just becuase theyve been sitting in pots since summer with all that rain washing the nutrients out of the soil. It just gives them a boost.

No need to worry , Growmore doesn't inhibit flowering becuase the flower is already formed inside the bulb.
