- but lots to do with our way of life.
Son-in-law was called out last night to save a chap's life - Paddington - parked on double yellow - 11pm - got ticket. Would an ambulance have got one??
What has happened to our sense of values?? = Tim
A bit like papparatzi taking photos of dying people instead of trying to help, hit and run drivers etc. Seems like some have no respect for human life. Only thing that gives confidence is that there are a lot of people out there who are willing to help and show compassion and morality.
A lady allotmenteer at our complex was on her bike, two Moroccan ladies in panic on the grassy slope to a small canal, doing nothing but shreeking. She jumps off the bicycle, sees todler in the water, jumps in, gets the kid out. The ladies grab the child and leave. Our heroine is left standing by her wet self, watch and shoes ruined.
(The reason I mentioned they were moroccan is that many immigrants don't know how to swim and almost all Dutch people do but the water there is only max 1m. deep, they probably didn't realize that.)
She told me the reward of knowing she saved the kid's life was enough but...............she couldn't really afford the damages and a thank you would have been nice.
It's sour for your son to end up with a parking ticket Tim. Will he contest it? I think the police will be lenient?
It is a very sorry state of affairs when these things happen and I bet we all have our own tale to tell, for every rotten thing like this I try to do a good one in return so its balanced out, doesn't have to be earth shatterring, just holding a door open, it must help musn't it?
Friend was arrested for 'drink driving'. Not breath- or blood-tested. Went to court. Police stated that my friend was seen 'lurching about in an unsteady manner'. Judge asked friend to explain: he did, saying that as it was late, his false leg was giving him pain hence the limp! Case thrown out. Friend got a bit of compo.
Incidents on the Scottish TV news recently.
A hearse was parked outside its own funeral parlour so that a coffin could be loaded - and yes - you've guessed it - they got a parking ticket!
A bus was stopped at a bus stop picking up passengers. Another parking ticket!
Just today I heard on the radio of a train stopped at a level crossing to let other trains go, as the road bisceted the tracks the traffic warden decided that the train was blocking said road for traffic and it got a parking ticket as well.
Good grief - what is the world coming to?? >:(
Hope your SIL gets let off with the fine Tim.
Eileen.
Hear, hear! When ridiculous little tin pot rules outwiegh common sense and humanity?
Second the motion to rip up SIL's parking ticket
'Disgusted of Cotswolds'
PS: It's amazing how little thanks one gets for helping in a crisis. Recall going to the aid of Mum and child having trouble with pony - once got pony under control and attended to child's nosebleed, they went off with hardly a thanks AND my horse's lead rope!
:( Its that kind of reaction that makes you think twice before helping again, sorry state of affairs isn't it CotswoldLass.
Just to try to restore a little more faith in human nature for you all.
I was driving to work one day a few years ago, down a very narrow country lane, when a riderless pony was cantering towards me. Pulled car into hedge, caught the pony and began to walk up to search for rider. In full reflective gear, even tho it was summer morning she appeared, in tears, terrified at what had happened to her pony. Turned out, ford escort driver (why is it always a ford?), driving fast only braked enough just to touch pony. Reared and dropped her. However, left my car there and walked pony and her back to her home, only about a mile away and her mother was so grateful and pleasant that I had bothered to stop. Made it all worthwhile. :)
Good on you Muddy, lets hope the poor girl has recovered, bless her, thank goodness you turned up when you did. ;D
muddy - my hero! As a horse rider myself, normally we just get aggro from drivers, so it's lovely to hear of someone who actually cares. I'm glad the girl and pony weren't hurt. Poor kid.
I will be eternally grateful to the man who caught my friend's horse when I fell of and sprained my ankle - oh exactly two months ago today. He was parked, having his lunch and got out to catch the runaway horse and lead him back towards me, as I hobbled across the field telepathically telling horse not to cross the road - which fortunately he didn't. So there are a few good people out there.
Tim - back to you. Make sure he contests the ticket. I deal with a lot of these complaints at work and I'm sure we'd refund that.
Brrrrrrrrrr, if I saw a horse on the loose, I'd move as fast as I could.........the other way.
Thanks, Aqui - but he paid. He looked it up &, I gather, ambulances - & doctors displaying a badge - are exempt.
So - how much does the badge cost? Over £1000. Cheaper to pay the ticket!! = Tim
