Not having worn wellies since I was a child I've come round to the idea that I need a pair to go with the new allotment.
A quick look online has seen pricing ranging from £20 to £100+ which is a bit scary! I much prefer the £20 end of that scale (although even that seems a bir pricy for what is essentially a bit of moulded rubber...) but was wondering if anyone can recommend any as well as places to buy them...
Thanks :)
b&q..10.00 about, :)
I just looked on EBay, lots of different sizes and patterns, alot with free postage too. ;D
Oh I forgot to add...Buy a pair slightly bigger than ordinary shoes so you can comfortably wear either two pairs of socks or chunky hiking style ones. Your feet can get quite cold in wellies ::)
I wear similar to these, bought at Focus
My Wellie Shoes ;D

Try them on! I bought cheap ones at homebase, size 5 as it always fits, which they did, right up to the calf, where they became far too tight. Now debating whether to try to wear them in, cut an inch off the top, or plant something in them and start again!
Most cheap shoe shops have funky ones on sale at the mo. Even seen them in Asda!!.
I got funky ones for under ten pounds.. thick socks they work fine :) ;D
The Dunlop ones are around £10 they tend to be bigger than your normal shoe size and I get them at a stall in the weekly market. Millets often has them and most shoe shops. I find the fancy expensive ones don't suit the shape of my foot. I did buy myself a fancy pair of fleece wellies socks recently but haven't tried them out in my wellies yet.
I inherited mine - they were in the allotment shed ;D
Spookily, they fit too!
hubby bought me pink wellies with flowers on last march for my birthday, had to get a new pair this week as wore them other day was very wet and muddy on ground and i got a wet foot!was a split down the heel, bought a dearer pair cost me abought £45 :o also got some fur liners to go in the botton ,they do make a differance keeps feet a lot warmer.

Aldi and Lidl have them as their specials at times and Matalan often have them as well if you want coloured or patterned ones.
HWTHKB (he who thinks he knows best! ;)) swears by his b and q ones, think they were about a tenner and they've been lottied for two years.
I favour the more 'glamorous' welly-flowers, stripes, spots, garish colours, I do find they tend to peel and perish a bit faster than his green ones which look very unchanged. Maybe I just work harder! ;D They have never been more than a tenner, and they do give my fellow lottie holders something to talk about! ;D ;D - Good Luck!
whichever you go to buy try them many have very thin soles and you can feel things through then stones etc
Good point Debster, thorns, stones and repeated pushing down on the old digging fork/spade can lead to sore foot if they aren't robust enough in the sole. :)
Cheers everyone, some great advice there!
We're off to Matalan on Sat anyway so I'll try there first and B&Q on the way home if needed.
:)
Large Primark stores have them v cheap,I have walking boots -support and gives my toes a fighting chance against me and the spade.
I paid £12 for a pair from FocusDIY over 3 years ago. Still going strong. They are still selling the same brand for the same price today ;)
I used to have wellies but now have cheap steel toe cap boots with a steel midsole (for digging) that I bought from Lidls. Do much better and if I want to protect my trouser bottoms, I wear my gaiters (which cost a lot more than the boots)
Matalan have got them coming in - £8 a pair in funky colours
Hi,
I got mine on Ebay - steel toe cap, steel mid sole and the grips are great - they seem like industrial standard - here's a link:

happy wellie hunting!

I always use wellies because of the ever-present possibility of having to go into the stream at the back. The only drawback is that they crak eventually, and never last as long as boots.
I bought me and the two boys a pair each in Wilkinsons last week. £6.99, pretty strong, very comfortable and a wide fit on the calf. Only downside - icky green colour but they did have some prettified ones for a tenner.
I had a pair of wellies which were ok but made my feet sweat, i have just bought apair of ankle boot wellies and going to try them for the first time today :)
Kind of depends what you are happy with if you go for wellies, boots or (my personal fav) sandles.
So do you have to drive to the lotty? Can you drive in your wellies?
Do you have the ability to clean them on the site or do you have to get them home to clean?
Not a fav of the stealtoe ones as there heavy and in the summer there going to be hell ;( But the guys are right you need to find a pair that are comfortable and one where when you dig you dont feel the shovel puressing back up your foot.
I take my 'wellies' off to drive and any other footwear I use at the allotment and get covered in mud. Early in my driving career I had a nasty experience with a pair of court shoes. One came off and went under the pedals preventing use of brake and clutch. Now I chose footwear that is firmly attached and doesn't slip for driving.
wilkies has green ones in 6.99, I think, plus pretty ones, 9.99 ;D
I ended up popping into Wilkies on Saturday as we were walking past and picked up a pair for 6.99 (plus a few packets of seeds on impulse ;D)
Tried them on and they seemed comfy with plenty of room. Was a bit unsure if the soles were thick enough but figured they'd do for now even if they don't last that long.
Thanks for all the suggestions. :)
I now wear 'Crocs' down the lottie (since my NHS Trust banned them and I can no longer wear them at work!), very light, suprisingly warm in winter, cool in summer, and can be bunged in the washing machine when grubby! And I do dig in them too! ;D
Us diabetics have to watch out for the type of wellies we use - or so the nurse told me - with sweating a bad thing and lack of strength another verily bad thing.
Hence I have paid an arm and most of a leg for some well cumfy ones with neoprene lining. Mind you... now I wear wellies to go walking as well as gardening. Every cloud has a neoprene lining...
My lad picked up 5 pairs after the Reading festival.. they throw away the ones peeps leave!
