Sweet Potatoes

Anyone know the best place to buy Sweet Potatoes for 2008? what time of year do they become available?

Tesco..and do them yourself ot T&M but expensive.

I buy T+M slips... but as Jeannine saya they're expensive... never had the nerve to start them myself!

the only time I ever started my own I just left some shop bought ones in the dark for a long time and they eventually shooted, took ages though

word of warning, my T&M slips were very late last year and a mess, when I asked about them, I was told to "see how they go and see what they do "..only 7 of the 10 for 10.00 came to anything, trouble is, once I'd waited, it was too late to re-plant, will try my own from organic stock this year  ;D

I have one sweet potato that has sprouted, can I plant this then??
If so, when, and is a black bucket ok to do so with just compost?
