Did anybody watch Jamie Oliver at home last night, the first two episodes.
Don't know if anybody had any comments on his "veg plots". I noticed they now have a website on channel 4 with advice on growing your own too.
I learnt a thing or two about Leeks :)
Not seen last nights yet but watched the last series (Oct/Nov last year I think) and enjoyed it so I'm looking forward to watching the new ones at the weekend.
Baring in mind it's fundamentaly a cooking program I was pleasently surprised how much screen time was devoted to the growing side of things.
An all round top show! :)
Wish there were more shows just about veg growing on TV though....
I noticed that the earth was too damm perfect..... ;D
Nah! the soil in my raised beds is like that. Lovely dark and crumbly it is.

Watched it. He probably had the "top soil" bought into his garden and put into his raised beds. Looked very good though.
Yes but did you notice that he had all these perfect deep beds and he walked on one of them!!! He was heeling in the leeks that he had dug up.
My understanding is that you NEVER walk on them as it compacts the soil and means that you will need to dig them again!

Watched it last night...
I must say I did laugh when he was doing those leeks... He just said something like 'just part the soil nice and easy like this with a spade...' as he gently rocked it back and forther with no effort at all and I thought yeah, no probs Jamie, I'll be able to do just that with my heavy clay!
Still a good program though, that Lamb looks fantastic (although I'm not sure about capers in the gravey...)
I don't know, what are we coming to. Cooks doing gardening, Gardeners doing building. It's getting like a supermarket program. Lets get back to Jamie doing cooking, Alan doing gardening and Barry doing building.
