Carol ,Sad end for the goldfinch but that's nature I suppose. You certainly share some great pics with us. Wish I could get near enough to take pics of the
goldfinches visiting my garden. I spend so much time watching them, well worth the 2 year wait before they decided my garden welcomes them ;D

I noticed there was a sick goldfinch flying around so wonder if that was what Mrs S. picked up.  As long as she doesnt take the Blackbirds.

Thanks for your kind words Lorna about my pictures.  I know you appreciate them, thank you.

Oh Carol that's so sad, Goldfinches are one of my favourites, we have quite a few visiting, but that's nature I suppose. Very good photo considering it's taken through the window :)

Nice one Carol. I love Sparrow Hawks about as much as i love Goldfinches. I never get to see Sparrow Hawks in my garden, unfotunately. Plenty of Goldfinches though. Lucky for the Goldfinches, i suppose. :)

Amazing to be able to get that pic Carol. It is sad to see a beautiful bird caught and killed but it is the way of nature.

Strange you brought this pic up today.  Mrs S. has been at it this morning again with yet another goldfinch.  Quite a few have been caught in my garden this winter.

Mr Sparrowhawk visited our garden early yesterday morning and caught a small bird from the peanut feeder on the fence  :'(

It's nature, i know - but quite a privilage to have such a magnificent bird visiting the  garden.

What a wonderful photo!! So close!.

We just recently began seeing hawks in our neighborhood- a Coopers hawk which screams as it flies which you'd think would scare away its prey. I'll try to post a pix (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y253/nonrancher/IMG_0196-2.jpg)

That lady hawk of mine has had more finches this past week.  I used to count 12 Goldfinches and now there is only a couple left.   She started sitting on the tree where the feeders hang so I have stuck a stick into the branch so there is nowhere for her to sit and pick off the wee birds.  They need to eat but pleeeeassse   move on up the road for a while.

:'( :'(

That is what happened with the coopers hawk. They flew off for awhile after cleaning the neighborhood out of little birds. Then they returned some months later. Makes me wonder if we are doing the songbirds a favor putting out feeders.
