Title: metal pots
Post by: sunloving on January 10, 2008, 10:50:40
Hi All

Im wondering if anyone has encountered any problems with using metal pots.

Ive been putting holes into a set of brass planters and some steel and copper cooking pots to make planters for outside, however im concerned about two things

1. will these pots boil my plants becuase they conduct heat so well?
2. will any metal salts leach into the soil and hurt my plants?

has anyone any experince of this?

Quite possibly! Why not put standard pots into the metal containers?

Quote2. will any metal salts leach into the soil and hurt my plants?

Again unlikely but you could get a build up of ferrous oxide(rust) but not enough I would have thought to cause much damage. Particularly if you change the compost each season.

Again I would use standard pots placed in the metal containers.
