I'm just about to start work on my new wildlife pond (no fish - unless they somehow get there by themselves...). I plan to line it with a butyl type liner and make it about 80cm at the deepest part and 1m x 1.5m.
Basically, I've had lots of conflicting advice from various people regarding the planting. What I ideally want are a couple of eye-catching plants (waterlilly / Arum etc.) and some oxygenating plants. Can anyone tell me what might be the best oxygentor to get - I would prefer not to have the pond overrun with the stuff and also to have something as native to Scotland as possible!
Many thanks,
Trevor
P.S - before I start digging, any disaster avoidance tips very welcome!
I would try hornwort.

Woolworths are currently selling a selection of half price pond plants for £2.99 each including waterlilies, cattails, Black water Iris and pickerel rushes amongst others.
There is a free guide to scottish native pond plants (& which plants to avoid) available here.
