I have just bought a sprouter from the charity shop for £2.25. I LOVE a bargain ;D ;D ;D
Anyway, to get to the point, I was wondering if it would be possible to buy a pack of dried peas (the sort you get in a box in the supermarket) and sprout these?
I am not sure if the sprouts would be safe to eat, as it is usually the peas you eat.
Also, any other suggestions for sprouting? I think I remember Carol Klein trying sprouted sweetcorn. Has anyone tried this? Will popping corn be any good to use?

Pea sprouts seem to have become quite trendy (if the shelves at M&S are anything to go by). I guess the trick will be to get seeds that have not been treated with anything - so a health store or your local department store should be safe enough.
In the range of things that I sprout are included:
Broccoli seeds (excellent cancer fighting properties)
Mooli radish
Fenugreek seeds
Chickpeas
Aduki beans
Mung beans
Green lentils
Quinoa (gave up eventually though as very low germination)
Black mustard
Yellow mustard
Sesame (again, poor germination)

Is there a problem with lentils and beans, as I thought they were poisonous if you didnt boil them to death first? Or do you cut the sprouts off and not eat the actual 'bean'?

No problem with aduki and mung beans or lentils as far as I am aware. The larger beans you do have to be careful of, especially kidney beans, which are toxic unless cooked.
I can`t see any problem with dried peas-apart from their size in a sprouter. I use any seed tray/mushroom punnet with old compost and let them grow away.
It`s quite poignant as every time I sow some for sprouting I think of our late friend who put me onto sprouting peas in the first place

Ditto. And it breaks my heart when I see the price of them on the supermarkets.
