Title: Seed Swap - Colours of the rainbow
Post by: Suzanne on January 03, 2008, 20:21:32
This was going to be an Easter themed swap but looking at my seed collection I don't really have anything with an Easter theme.  ::) Should have looked first !

But on a better note I do have a lot of seeds with colours in their names. So how about a colours of the rainbow swap. After all they say you should eat the rainbow to be healthy ;D. I also think everyone probably has seed with colours in the names in their collection somewhere so may be a little easier.

So if anyone is interested in this then please let me know and pm me.

I think we should keep the list to about 15 so it gets around to everyone fairly quickly.

:)

We have 10 players at the moment - which would mean that the parcel goes round relatively quickly. But I can still take it up to 15 and it should still ensure that people get seed in time to sow in March/April. Come what may I will close this on Sunday so I can get the parcel going for Monday.

Looks like I already have withdrawal symptoms from my mega seed fest shop on Boxing Day so I am relying on you all to keep me free of my addiction for Jan/Feb!

;D ;D ;D

I parceled the seeds up last night ready to go into the envelope and be posted tomorrow. The order the parcel will be sent round is:-

Elsie
Flowers of Shona
Jeannine
Bupster
Silverbirch
Natasha
Weed-Digga
Stevens706
Riffster
Blue Bird

As we have a relatively short list this should go quite quickly. But please keep me posted as to when you receive the parcel and when you post it on. Also be aware that I thought I would get the seeds into a A5 padded envelope - no such luck it is going into an A4 padded envelope - so hope your letter boxes are big enough.

Good luck :)

Don't worry about the size of my letterbox, I'll be waiting at the door for this  ;)

Elsie, try not to harass the postman, after a few seed swaps with me waiting at the door mine had started to take evasive action.   ;D

However after he delivered the spanish seed swap which came in a shoe box I recommended him for postal employee of the month! Since then he has been lovely.  :)

Yep, I am off work as I has a minor surgery this morning so you hit it lucky. It has been and gone with only 1 hour turn around here. I found some interesting melons and carrotts, thenk you for the giver.

It is off to Cambridge.

Ooops and it is a lot heavier as I had had a good rainbow clearout, I had them all set aside to take a closer look through to see what was going in, then John shouting he was ready to go to the post office so I stuck the lot in!!

Have fun.

Silverbirch you are the halfway point - so the parcel is going around really quickly. Which is good news as I have a couple of people asked to be added on to the list after it had been posted.

When it gets back to me I'll send it out again - so if anyone else wants to take part let me know. :)

I've finished making my swaps.  I won't give any secrets away, because that's half the fun, but I found some real gems.  I just hope my offerings are up to standard.

It's ready to post off, but I may not be able to get to the post office until Friday, as I've got visitors at work tomorrow.  If Saturday counts, I'll send the pack guaranteed overnight.  I'll keep you informed on here.

Well done, Suzanne, this was a great idea.

So maybe it is not a great idea

I think I have a few seeds with Christmas/Winter themes. I know I have Ghost pumpkins, Rouge d'hiver letuce, Giant Winter spinach, "Santa" Krus tomatoes, Pandora (Box - chrismas box at a stretch maybe) leeks without looking. If I go through my seed list properly I am sure I can find quite a few.

If we all don't have enough individually perhaps we send to a 2coordinator" to make up a packet and then send round?  :-\

Suxanne, that is is often what they do on the US swaps, then everybody wins  as is shared out equally, you get the amount of  what you put in  but different varieties. I have never seen one done on here yet though. I have just been in a Valentine one from overseas.XX Jeannine

Sorry for the delay in posting the swap on. I've had a really horrid week, my parents came down to the lottie on Sunday and my Dad had a heart attack. A real shock to us all as he is so active and always loves to be doing something. He is now on the mend, and we are grateful that he had just a 'warning' to slow down and change his lifestyle as so many people don't get that opportunity. Hope you all enjoy the swap, many thanks for organising and sorry again.

Same here - don't be sorry about looking after family first. My dad had an unexpected heart problem a couple of christmas's ago, and I know I let everything else go until I knew he was out of the woods.

I hope your dad is much better soon - I know mine with a slight change in lifestyle is back to fighting fitness.

I have to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the first round - over 70 packets of seeds in returned parcel with lots of beans, squash and unusual things. I will start a new thread for Round 2 and post the participants - 6 so far.

I have a few more things I can add and then I'll send it out on Monday.  :)
