I've convinced my wife we have room for one more small-ish tree in our garden and I'd like it to be wildlife-friendly. We want interest over as long a period as possible so was thinking either rowan or crabb apple. (blossom, fruit, autumn colour). Any thoughts?
I like Silver Birch - good colour in the trunk, dappled light in summer, fairly cheap, and a good choice for wildlife.
We have planted a few trees this Autumn and my favourite one is the Kashmir Sorbus. (I hope the link works).

I also like Himalayan birches as I love the peeling bark. We now have three different varieties as well as the Native Silver Birch and several types of Malus with different colour berries.
