Now that proper, hard frosts have arrived and birds are visiting garden feeders/tables in big numbers, can I please remind peeps how important it is to make sure there is some water available for them?
(I really screwed up a wood pigeon's skating session this a.m. by pouring hot water into the birdbath! ;))
;D ;D ;D
Apparently cold water is better. Can't remember the science, something about it refreezing more slowly.
I think you're right, Caroline - but please dont tell the birds! ;) They were drinking as soon as I walked away!
Even on a cold day like today they are queuing up for a bath, making me cold just watching. ;D
My blackbirds are fascinated by the pond at the moment because the water level has dropped so they are bathing in the marginal plant pots. I had a couple of pheasants walk across the pond the other day when it was iced over.
defrosted their water hole and was immediately rewarded by thirsty sparrows ;D
