I saw this in the paper the other day, and found a follow up on the hdra site. Interesting idea for Christmas if you're stuck. I wonder if the mother-in-law would appreciate adopting the DFB "Dragon's tongue"? Maybe not.
Vegetables are for life, not just for Christmas

I adopted Purple Podded Peas years ago when they were all lonely... still have the cert, and the peas...
;D
I adopted a rare type of white carrot for a birthday present for my sister this year which she seemed to appreciate greatly (she uses this site so may pop up and agree/disagree!) Anyway she won a prize with one of the carrots, and we helped her eat the others, which were very tasty.
I recommend doing this as you get a certificate, a card and a warm sense of satisfaction (as well as some unusual vegetables) :)
Any Hugh's here? There's a Pea called Hugh's Huge that wants to be adopted!
Oh, do you get seeds as well as the certificate? What a good idea.
I just ordered them out of the library catalogue... might be tempted!
;D
Yes I am the sister - and I framed my certificate!
I also let some of them run to seed, so I have more to sow this year...
Maybe I'll give some seeds to my sister... if she's nice to me.
PS. The proof!

First prize!
(But the only entry in that category)
They also add your name to the book of adopters at the Heritage Seed Library. I went to Ryton last year and they display the book in one of the HSL windows and it was open to the page with my name on it! :o
Hi All,
I checked with Garden Organic and they told me that you do not recieve seeds for your adopted varieties.
The £20 from the adopt a veg goes towards helping to conserve the seeds in thier Seed Library.
