Title: Geoffrey Smith
Post by: Mr Smith on December 06, 2007, 20:13:17
I always remember the gardening programme 'Mr Smiths' vegatable garden and we loved it. I have just bought a book off Amazon by Geoffrey Smith which is about both flowers and veg. Do any of you know of a title by GS that is just about vegatable growing :)

Not on veg, but the Geoffrey Smith's World of Flowers series was wonderful.  His enthusiasm was so addictive.

Sadly they don't make TV programmes like that any more!!

I agree MO, with all the dross they keep repeating, it would be worthwhile the BBC repeating some of the 'good stuff' they made years ago.

I have emailed the BBC to repeat his programme but they will not do it.  I watched the series when first shown also I bought the book that went with the series, unfortunately I lent it to a friend and not its gone forever

The problem with the older programmes is that they weren't aimed at "yoof".  You actually got people speaking clearly to a camera  that didn't feel the need to zoom in and out every millisecond to make the shot "interesting".

Did any of you watch Rachel de Thame the other Friday on superfoods?  It could have been an interesting programme, but no.  I had to turn off after 5 minutes as the constant camera motion was starting to make me feel seasick.

I hate all of that moving the camera to make it look like we're there style of filming.

...And I also hate it when, instead of cutting from one camera angle to a different camera, they swing the original one round to the other person on screen.  Is it CSI or some other crime thingie where they do that a lot.??  >:(
