Title: International dialling Uk > Canda - help!
Post by: SamLouise on December 05, 2007, 10:43:29
I feel pretty thick but I'm not sure which numbers I need to dial.

My information says to ring Canada from the UK, I need to dial 00 + 1 + Area Code + Tel Number. That's fine. The number I need to ring is listed as
1 888 783 3461 so is that 1 at the beginning of the number their area code which means I don't need to enter two number 1s? So I basically need to ring 001 888 783 3461? Or do I need the extra 1? I'm not blonde and I did go to school - honest.

(It's a business number, not private!)

I think all international calls are prefixed with 00. I think that 00 1 is the code for USA, so I suppose Canada is the same. On mobiles you can prefix it with a + sign instead of the 00.  You often see it written that way. The 888 would be the area code.

I've just found a site with area codes - it seems 888 is for toll-free calls, like our 0800 numbers which are not normally accessible from outside the country.

Thank you, Asbean.  Hmmm, I thought it was Canada (the apparel is all Canadian lol) Oh well, by email it is then.
