After a first year of good and bad crops, my sprouts are now lopsided and producing "baby cabbages". I guess they have blown, can I use any of them?
Also, what is left of the purple sprouting brocoli is leaning and looking like the calabrese that flowered immediately. Any tips would be appreciated.
You must have read my mind Coco :o , I was looking at some on the market today and when I went to the lottie my neighbours have blown but the tops look great :P so I await your answers. ;D ;D ;D
Me too !!! !!!
Yes definatly use the leaves.....I usually bring them to the boil and change the water to cook, as they are strong tasting. But its up to what you enjoy eating.
They are lovely in my opinion.... ;)
Sprout tops taste really good .Just cook em as you would spring cabbage etc .
The Purple sprouting growing semi horizontal /horizontal will still send its spears out for you to pick ...
We eat them all ;D
Also, when they bolt the young flower stems before the flowers open are delicious.....as are the ones on cabbage and kale.
Enjoy, :P
Truffle
Thanks for that. I will be out tomorrow harvesting my sprout thingies. Glad they can be of use, then I can think about sorting out the bed for next year ;D
