Happy Xmas (war is over) J Lennon and Yoko Ono band did the hair standing thing for me. Yoko's b-side was almost listenable too
One that probably most of you don't know. "On a starry night". Memories of my kids singing it at primary school bring a lump to my throat every time.
Otherwise the oldies like "Chestnuts roasting.." and "Have yourself a merry little Christmas".
Ace is that the one i have manage to download cos id never heard of it its a comedy isnt it
if so its very funny but very rude ;D
I used to like "O Holy night" until they ued it in South Park!

Don't listen to it when the kids are about.
ACE hubby knew it already mind you he spent 2 years living in Oz its priceless
I'm with you Rosie - The Pogues and Kirsty make me well up everytime ::)
Yep, The Pogues and Kirsty McCall for me too.
And Slade IT'S CHRISTMAAAAAAAASSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bing and his White Christmas does it for me! (Sadly the Coca Cola lorry advert does it for our son :()
Yep! It's Greg Lake for me! a cynical crimbo song against consumerism! I'll also be listening to the mighty Mark E Smith singing Hark The Herald and Jingle Bell Rock! Also South Park Merry Fu***** Christmas! Sorry no gooey cheesy Christmas songs for me!!
I used to have a single called the 12days of Christmas, Wogan used to play it on radio 2 nearly everyday a few years ago, it was a very very funny record. My husband, when we moved gave every record we had to a charity shop and now i cannot get it anywhere, i know it would make you all laugh if you heard it. Does anyone know which one it is?It was sung by an Irishman.
O Holy Night and Silent Night are my favourites.
For Rosebud - Frank Kelly sang Christmas Countdown think this might be it - can't find his original but this is the nearest

I love the Greg Lake song I believe in Father Christmas and The Pogues and Kirsty McColl when i am fed up with the commercialism of Christmas. But for a party and when I am feeling cheesy I love The Waitresses and Christmas rapping. And when I am feeling a little nostalgic then the childrens hymns Little Donkey and Three Wise Men (and just to really floor my street cred - not that I ever had any) I like I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus! for real double and toasted cheese because my dad used to sing this to me and my sisters once he'd swiped santas sherry ;D
Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley, apart from many traditional ones.
Vony.
in the bleak midwinter does it for me - especially the versions with colliery type bands.
A few years back i was on the upper floor of a shopping center looking down on all the shoppers rushing around doing there Xmas shopping when Carol of the bells was playing, when i hear it now it allways reminds me of shoppers dashing from one shop to another allmost in a frenzy to get that last prezzie.
So a Carol of bells it is for me. :)
Go with the first three Suzanne... but any none cheesy...
;D
No votes for Mr Hanky the Christmas Poo, then?
Happy Christmas War is Over, and Bing's White Christmas do it for me - oh and Frankie Goes to Hollywood's The Power of Love (not a Christmas song as such, but a Christmas No. 1 all the same)
I like all of the Christmas songs really, but IN SEASON - NOT BEFORE MID DECEMBER, THANK YOU!! (retailers and radio stations please note).
;D
There's only one good Christmas song, and it's by Kevin Bloody Wilson! "Hey Santa Claus...". It belongs in the watershed really!
They think its all over, yes thank god, btw i am a humbug to xmas , but wish anyone else a good time
;D
N C, thank you very much, i have just listened to it again ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.
It has made my day what a good laugh and i have heard it so many times.. I think peeps should listen to that if they are feeling a bit fed up it will soon put a smile back where it belongs. Rosebud. ;D
The things I learn from gardening. My grandchildren would be shocked. Laughing all the way to bed.
I was dragged into a retail "Hell" on Friday and they were already playing bad versions of Christmas songs... I think by the 8th of December all shop assistants should be able to claim insanity .... ;D
O Holy Night without a doubt, sung in our church in Canada..........oh how I wish XX Jeannine
Just come back from Beverley Minster this evening where we heard a wonderful performance of the complete Handel's Messiah
I managed to miss the first page of this thread! What exceptionally good taste you have ACE! ;D
There's also "Frosty the Yobbo" and one about Rudolf, IIRC.

I must admit I have a discerning taste in music.
I am still trying to perfect the art of breathing through my ears ;)
well I like several of the ones already mentioned (& loads more) but especially love to hear 'Driving Home for Christmas' by Chris Rea - gives me such a happy Christmassy feeling :)
another I really like is a Carol called 'Jesus Christ the Apple Tree' had never heard it till about 3 or 4 years ago and just love it, think choir at Kings College Cambridge sing it .....classicfm play it fairly often throughout December
I like most of the ones mentioned (not listened to the funny one yet, will do when middle 'un goes back to school soon ;D ) but they all make me sniff a little bit, I find it impossible to sing right through any of them without filling up.
Praps I should stick to Jingle Bells :)
I read the original words to jingle Bells last week all five verses, quite entertaining actually XX Jeannine

Once in Royal David's City - sung by a lone choirboy at the start of the Christmas Eve Carol Service from Kings College Cambridge. I was very lucky when younger to be able to go to this service each year, thanks to my Dad working there, and I now listen to it each year on the radio - still gives me goosebumps! :)

Their best ever performance was at the heineken festival at Southsea castle about 18 years ago. I was performing with another band playing the bodhran, they liked my style and asked me to join them on stage for a few numbers. Afterwards in the green room they suggested that I ought to join them on tour, but I was contracted with another band so I missed out. I was a bit of a beer pig then so god knows how I would have ended up with their constant drinking.

Kevin Wilson - Ho Ho F*****g Ho
I love Christmas Rapping by The Waitresses and I Wish it Could Be Christmas Every Day because you can hear the kids' Brummy accents!
Carols wise I love 3 Kings From Persian Lands - only heard once since I left school so I sing it to myself each Christmas, Silent Night, plus all the carols we're doing at my choir's Christmas concert on Monday, even the Ukrainian 1, currently being used in an advert on the telly!
hiya, banshee, welcome to the site, I love wierd Al and that one cheered me up ;D
Thanks for the welcome Manicscousers ;D ;D
(I'd never heard of Wierd Al before but my eldest introduced me to his songs a couple of years ago.)
I love his version of thriller and the e bay song ;D ;D
Yes and his take of the Avril Lavine song Complicated, Al's version = Constipated, Yoda and a whole host of others. Beats some of the rubbish out nowadays.
As for other Christmas Songs I quite like the traditional Christmas Carols myself. :)
Whatever happened to the christmas songs that all came out during the 60's and 70's? The christmas CD's seem to have just abandoned them in favour of the more recent ones!
I like most christmas songs, particularly Boney M's 'Mary's Boy Child', all of the traditional carols and Joshua Whats-his-name's 'Home for Christmas'. They just remind me of when christmas was really special!!
UP WITH THE thingy - JUDGE DREAD - ALWAYS BREAKS THE ICE AT PARTIES XXX ;D
