I'm sure Cornykev as got as much selfcontrol as me. ::) :-[
More than most on this site Frogslegs and Saddad I lose track when I grow too many different veggies, but I have to admit when the seeds are in the sale I will be stocking up for 2009. ;D ;D ;D
I'm about to order stuff from Real Seeds as well ;D
I've posted this in 'Edibles' as well, but worth repeating - Real Seeds now have their Oca in stock!
;D
Sorry to be dumb....but what is Oca? I have heard of it but dont have a clue.....I could do a google but Ive had a beer and cant be bothered :-\
Read everything that you ever wanted to know about oca at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oca
It is considered one of the 'Lost Crops of the Incas' with potential global agricultural merit. I have not yet been fortunate enough to try one but the taste is meant to be good.
Thank you Rob......they sound interesting too, think I need acres of ground to try everything Id like to
need paracetamol......got a slight hangover
Seeds arrived today, but I'm suprised they give you good imformation on seed saving, I've only ever saved bean seeds so we'll have to see. ;D ;D ;D
I love this company - they are passionate about what they do and deserve our support!
Louise
These guys are great and you get loads of seeds for your money. I am biased though - the first time I ordered from them they sent me a personal note saying that they knew the seeds would grow for me because they started their business in a house on the same street as me! ;D
Hey....I bet they all grew for you bupster! How great is that.
Not so good for my pocket as I now buy loads from them every year! ;D
Just got my order back from Real seeds-am hopin to try Achocha-been reading in the forum---do they taste good??
As they are in Newport Pembrokeshire,-think they would grow for me in Newport,Gwent. ;D ;D

Scarlet and White Oca - 7 tubers of each
Straightneck yellow squash
Quinoa, which I thought would impress my son until he said "Yeah, seen it on Food Poker"

Achocha grows well in north co. Dublin so should do ok in Pembrokeshire.
Here is one recipe for stuffed Achocha that you might want to try:

My realseeds (http://www.realseeds.co.uk) order arrived today;
Collective Farm Woman Melon
Prescott Fond Blanc Melon
Telephone Pea
Golden Sweet Yellow-Podded Mange-tout pea
Reisetomate Pocketbook Vine Tomato
Purple Ukraine Tomato
Amish Paste (Giant Plum Tomato)
Millefleur yellow centiflor tomato
Red Cluster Pear centiflor tomato
Mammoth Basil
Managed to limit myself to spending just £17.81 for the time being.
Achocha grows fine in Sunny Derby! Watch out for late frosts though as it really hates frost! Taste, small ones eaten whole somewhere between Mint and Cucumber.. like Salad Burnett. Larger ones just use the flesh/shell in stir fries fairly inocuous (?)
;D
