the last couple of weeks has been pretty manic with one thing and another and i planted my peas and broad beans and put them in the back bedroom and kind of forgot them they are now long and leggy and the broad beans are flowering should i just put them in the compost and start again and do i have time to do so?
thanks for your help
If your broadbeans are flowering why not let them carry on and see what happens?
We had a batch of chillis here that we forgot about and they are only about four inches high and very spindly, but they are flowering now and have set fruit - cayenne type peppers that are perfectly edible.
Even if you only get a few bean pods off the broad beans it is better than nothing.
Don't cut your losses, cut the plants back hard, then put them in a cold frame for a few days to harden off before planting out. If they survive, they should do ok.
ok thank you i will try a bit of both thanks again ;D
There won't be any insects about to pollinate them so your only chance of a crop would be if you hand-pollinated them, and then the weather remained good enough for them to conrinute growing long enough to produce beans.
Like the insects I hibernate, time enough in the spring for all these types of plantings plus it gives the ground a rest as well.
I have never found any real advantage of autumn sowings.
OK you might get your stuff a week or two earlier then again you might not if there is some hungry wildlife about.
Best of luck!!
with me i guess its just a case of i feel i should be doing something out there
