do people tend to leave water in the chickens night time area?
I never do. No water no food till morning.
even on these long nights wen they are in bed @ 4.30?
I think Chickens need water available to them at all times ..Inside or out .I have it in my runs and in my sheds.. It's changed daily ...
i leave water outside and inside but definitely no food left overnight rats love night time feasts so nothing edible is left overnight.
At this time of year water often gets frozen (even in the shed) so I don't have any inside but provide fresh each morning.
My shed is a long way from the house so no power - still have not found a reliable/simple way of stopping the water freezing overnight. A solar heated heat storage system might do it, but not seen one......
hens need there water i keep water with them all the time
I agree with you Sid .If no water inside the birds are going to be deprived of water for 16 hours a day this time of year..
Wonder how this affects the egg laying? .. It shouldn't be too much hassle to make an insulated box out of hay or polystyrene to stand your drinker in overnight to stop it freezing..
Better still insulate your shed. Cover netting windows etc with polythene put a good layer of straw or chaff on the floor, as well as keeping them a good bit warmer it gives them something to scratch about in which stops them from getting bored. and having a go at one another . A happy hen is a laying hen :)
