Title: Harvest time...
Post by: saddad on November 11, 2007, 18:41:38
Have nearly cleared out the big greehouse...
The late courgettes were too large and mildewed so they had to go..Got about 9 non botrys ridden fruit.... but managed to give them away. We have two at about a kilo each and this one...

He weighs in at nearly 11lb (4.887kg)..
The Chillies are Joe's Long I think... the plant is doing so well I left it in..
;D
But far more importantly it was time to get the Sweet Potatoes out...
10 T+M Beauregard slips... total crop @ 15kg...
Gave about 6 medium ones away... still had eight over a lb each...
(http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e190/Plot52/DSCN2048.jpg) close up of the stars... the biggest is 1.276 Kg,

The Oca will have to wait until next week as we haven't room in the kitchen...
;D

Did you grwo the sweet pot in the greenhouse too?  Very impressive.  My neighbour grew some, but they were nowhere near that size.

That is a fantastic haul on the sweet potato Saddad!

The marrow/courgette looks good too - can just imagine that stuffed and roasted for Sunday lunch...

The two black 'fruit' just below the marrow and above the chillies - what are they?

The concensus seems to be keep them like spuds cool and Dark...
The Oca are next... I know there is something because I pulled at the plant where it had flopped over and it had finger nail sized tubers where it had rooted down.. it is often described as "lemony" but that may be the oxalic acid when they have not had enough light.. unlike potatoes these tubers have to be exposed to light to make them non toxic...
