Title: Washing gardening gloves
Post by: caroline7758 on November 09, 2007, 14:29:59
I treated myself to some "Gold leaf" gardening gloves, which have been great, but after they got very clogged up with mud, I rinsed them through and now they have gone very stiff and they rub on my hands so they are really sore- think I'd be better off without gloves (I do have sensitive skin on my hands). Any suggestions for renovating them? (The gloves rather than the hands!)These are they:

You could try rinsing with hair conditioner I have used it on others things and is stronger than fabric conditioner

Try soaking/rubbing in with dubbin on the leather parts, presuming that's what has hardened up. Dubbin is used to keep leather supple and waterproof, hence its use on football boots etc.

Good ideas, I've got some dubbin somewhere, and I've certainly got some conditioner.

We use "Showa" gloves and they can be machine washed...

I used to work in a Haberdashery buying office, and I remember they recommended 'Woolite' to wash leather gloves in....very mild detergent and stops them getting too 'stiff'.

Saddle soap is good too, its used for keeping saddles (strangely enough) and bridles soft and supple for horses.
