I have got loads of grass growing around the bottom of my raspberry plants. I can't dig it out in case I damage the roots. I've pulled out what I can and covered with a mulch, but after I cut them back, could I use a weed gun or weedkiller without damageing the rasps?
If you're happy with Roundup, give it a light spray in the spring when it has started to regrow.
I`m with Tim. As long as you don`t get it on any green growth(the raspberries) it will be fine.
if two experts are in agreement, I'll go along with that. I do try to avoid chemicals, but sometimes needs must- does Roundup have a long shelf life- I've had some for a couple of years now?b
Caroline before you resort to chemicals I'd say give the mulch a chance to smother the grass. Make sure it's at least three inches thick.

I agree with all the above. However, this year the grass round the raspberries in my old garden (I've just moved) was getting severe - I was removing it in handfuls round each cane - but the raspberry yield was the best ever. It looks untidy but if you don't mind, the berries appear not to, either!

That's reassuring, Richard- thanks!
Before you do it, wrap newspaper sleeves around the canes to prevent the over spray getting on to the canes.
