Title: When should I pick runners for keeping as seed?
Post by: twinkletoes on October 30, 2007, 08:20:17
........there - you have the question already.   :)   There is still plenty of healthy looking growth on my runners but not many beans now.  However I have plenty of swollen pods but do not know whether I should leave them where they are to dry or pick them and leave them somewhere (where?) to dry. Do I shell them and just dry the beans or the whole pod?   First attempt at seed saving so ......   Have looked at other threads about saving seeds but, as usual, none seem to answer my specific questions. Thanks for your help.

I leave mine on the plant till they get very dry then shell them into paper bags. Works for me!

Does the frost kill the seed ?  Ie Should I pick what I can now and closely watch the forecast?

Leave the beans on until they go brown then you can shell and dry them, and if you have to many they can be used in stews etc  :)
