Title: Poole Harbour Pictures
Post by: Paulines7 on October 28, 2007, 10:51:42
It was absolutely breathtaking as we entered Poole Harbour on the Brittany Ferry Barfleur.  The views were magnificent and these photos do not do it justice.  It is a memory I will never forget.    :D

Pauline, Wonderful photos, I have never been to that part of the country, maybe a future holiday destination for me? Thank you for sharing.

lovely pictures. brought back lots of memories. Did you spot any naturists on the Studland side? The other side Sandbanks is the 4th most expensive place in the world for property. The HSBC bank there won't let you in if you've got less than £50,000 in savings or earn less than £75,000

Pauline, I absolutely agree. It is amazing, and all the better for doing it on a sunny day.

No.   I scanned the beach with my binoculars but didn't see any nudists.     :(   ;D ;D

It's alright for some, isn't it!!  Wish I was there - but the photos are so good that I feel I am.
For obvious reasons, those cliffs give me butterflies.

Quite different from 1928??  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/photo04/personal/fleetMedium.jpg

We used to do our school walks to Sandbanks.

A repeat, I know.

A bit before my time Tim.   :P   ;D

What vessels were those in the water?  I assumed they weren't warships as it was between the wars but your caption does show "fleet".

Wasn't it some big naval review?

Great pictures Pauline7. They have brought back some wonderful memories.
Does anyone know if the peacocks are still on Brownsea island. I last went there about 30 yrs ago and remember the peacocks wandering there. There were notices warning that it was an offence to take their feathers off the island. When we had got off the ferry and walked a little way away my Father pulled a feather from out of his sleeve!  :-[
Please don't tell anyone  ;D

I know the area well. My mum was brought up in bournemouth and we still visit the town regularly. Have been on the Sandbanks ferry a few times too, the most recent time was back last summer after visiting an NGS garden in Poole. I have also traveled to france from Poole (school trip) so I am familiar with the veiws in the photos. My lasting memory from that trip was on the return trip back into Poole, the sun was setting and i can remember looking out onto Studland Bay in the fading light as we approached the harbour. Very memorable. Thanks for sharing.

Here are a few of my pictues of the area, taken from the Purbeck Hills:
