Title: Bay cuttings
Post by: Weed-Digga on October 21, 2007, 16:40:56
Have been given 4 Bay cuttings (Mum said she would've taken a bit with root, but Dad just cut them off!) Does anyone know if/how I can propogate them, please?

A bit late for the normal way of taking cuttings see here http://tinyurl.com/yqh6mw

I think I would just put them in a jar of water and see if they will root hydroponically.

Change the water regularly.

Hi there,

I took cuttings at this time of year a few years back as I didn't know what was what (still don't really!), dipped in rootgrow and potted into 3" pots with a plastic bag stuck over held with a laccy band. I now have one very healthy bay in a 12" pot(out of 3 cuttings) so am v pleased  :)

Naturally Bays tend to form rooted cuttings at the base of the plant, which is the easiest way to do it. The last time that I re-potted mine, I took the opportunity to pot-up several of these rooted cuttings which were gratefully received by fellow plotters, especially as it was the rare Golden Bay form.

Thanks

I think I will put 2 in water and 2 in soil and see what happens.

Just need to keep Dad away from the secateurs in future!!
